[News] TVXQ Tops Oricon Weekly For the 5th Time

TVXQ has gone back to Japan again after just a few months of activities in their native Korea, and as soon as their plane landed, their newest single Bolero/Kiss the Baby Sky/Wasurenai landed on the No.1 spot on the Oricon chart for the fifth time.

[News] SNSD on COMPLEX (US online magazine)

Girls’ Generation has appeared on male site Complex.com (For a feeling of what the site is like, just look at their tag line: “Buy.Collect.Obsess - The original buyer’s guide for men.” Ugh). Titled “Meet Korea’s 9-Girl Pop Supergroup,” the article includes an introduction to their hit song “Gee,” and calls it “stupidly, stupidly addictive.”

It goes on to say, “Though SNSD may appear to consist of faceless Korean fembots, there really are nine distinct people in the group,” and proceeds to give individual photos and profile descriptions on each member.

Meanwhile, Girls’ Generation has won #1 for “Gee” in January 16th’s KBS “Music Bank,” January 18th’s SBS “Popular Song,” and January 23rd’s “Music Bank.” They have even ranked #1 for two weeks in a row on “Music Bank,” where they haven’t even performed yet.

The “Gee” syndrome has definitely been spreading through the music itself but also ringtones, the “Gee” dance, the lively choreography, the vintage fashion of their T-shirts, and it looks like this fever will keep catching on for now.

Girls, are you still idling away?

I finally managed to find our Korean manager, Hee Jun, and got the record of DBSK's stay in our hotel from her. I didn't get all the records, but I tried my best...

Hee Jun said she didn't really like the boys when she first met them at the airport at 2am in the morning... she knew that they were tired after flying the entire night, and she was full of expectations. Yet stars/celebrities meant unpredictability and that they were different from others. You must know that the newspapers are plastered with news about celebrities behaving oddly.

But the next few days, through her observations of and interactions with them, her opinion towards singers changed completely. She commented that they were really cute, kind, happy and polite! The leader, Yunho, was her favourite as he conducted himself really well, was very kind and showed a lot of concern for the people around him, be it another DBSK member or a hotel staff. Yunho is indeed a true gentleman as she described him!

DBSK's schedule of 2 days has been revealed. They were initially headed for shooting in Hawaii, but the price of passes/visas to Hawaii increased by a large margin, they had to shoot somewhere closer. Thus they chose Saipan.

DBSK had actually been to Saipan 3 years ago for shooting, and again for a vacation, but they had stayed in another hotel. What made us really proud was that one of the members of DBSK told Hee Jun that they did not like the previous hotel at all, and thought that ours was great! They would also be back again, for the sole purpose of having a vacation.

The members spent nearly all their time working, and only managed to "steal" a little time for themselves after returning to the hotel. They were really tired after the schedule ended, yet they did not want to leave. The members also worked with a cheerful attitude no matter how packed the schedule was.

[News] Cassiopeians donate to the Fruit of Love charity

On behalf of Xiah Junsu's birthday on the 1st, his fans had decided to donate 9 million won (approx. $6,700) to a Korean Charity called "Fruit of Love." This donation was made under Junsu's name and has been made for the past few years. The fans stated that "rather than a present, we thought that it would be bigger and more meaningful to donate to a charity under Xiah Junsu's name."

Another group of fans, from the fan site DNBN, had also collected and donated 5 million won (approx. $3,700) to the charity for DBSK's 5th year anniversary.

Big Bang's baby solo act Seungri was a guest on Chin Chin Radio with Kangin on Jan. 22nd, and what do you know, Junsu of Dong Bang Shin Ki, who Seungri has on more than one occasion confessed his love for, made a surprise phone call to the show.

The two chatted about DBSK's most recent Oricon Chart achievement, and Junsu said that he likes Seungri's song, and for him to continue to work hard at his solo career. Then Seungri blushed and giggled.

SHINee has come a long way since their debut 9 months ago. In that time, they've achieved first place on the various music shows and also won rookie of the year / best new artist awards. However, SHINee is now saying goodbye... but only temporarily.

SHINee will be taking a long deserved break and will be ending all their promotions. They will also work on their new album release during the break.

SHINee had their Goodbye Stage performance on KBS Music Bank. They will also have a Goodbye stage on MBC Music Core on the 24th.

SM Entertainment said that SHINee won't be gone for long and to anticipate a new side of SHINee.

[News] Tohoshinki hits #1 in Japan (Again)

On January 21st, with sales of over 60,000 on the first day of release. Tohoshinki / TVXQ's / DBSK's new single "Bolero" has achieved the first place slot on the Oricon Daily Charts. This will be the 6th time that TVXQ reached first on the Oricon Daily Charts. This also makes them the first foreign artist in Japan to have 6 first Oricon Daily singles. With this accomplishment, the boys will most likely reach first on the Oricon Weekly Chart as well.

[News] Taeyeon and Kangin’s Apology

Taeyeon officially apologized to the nurses on January 19th's “MBC Radio Kangin and Taeyeon’s Chinhan Chingoo.”

DJ Kangin said in the opening “There’s a time when you feel the other person’s happiness when they say something. Then there is a time your life changes because of some words from another person. And then there are people who have to live their life with some words they said.” Taeyeon: “The power of words is big”. She added: “A small fire can burn down an entire forest.”

Kangin said “In your words, you have to think of the opposite. But depending on the circumstances you say words only from your perspective” and thus admitting the mistake Taeyeon did to the nurses. Taeyeon said: “I was sick last week and I didn’t think about the opposite when I said some things. I am really sorry if my words were wrong and have hurt you. I am going to try being more careful and thinking about the opposite.” After that, they both admitted the mistake and made an official apology to everyone.

Jaurim’s “20세기 소년소녀” was broadcasted after the apology. After the song, Taeyeon apologised again “I said it in the opening before but I want to apologize for my mistake last week. I think that I hurt many people and that many have thought that what I said was wrong. I feel immature about that.” With that she admitted her mistake and was close to tears.

Kangin said: “Once more again with my head down I want to express my words of apology. We will not repeat the same mistake. Again, Taeyeon and I are apologizing with our heads down.“

On the 12th, Taeyeon said: “I got to the hospital to get an injection but they said they couldn’t give me one because the nurse had to go to eat. But has the patient to be sick in the time when the nurse is free and has nothing to do like going to eat?” Because of that the discussions started. Kangin said “I think they lost their minds and only thought about themselves” and joked about “go to eat for the rest of your lives“.

As the discussion and anger of the nurses got too much, SNSD Taeyeon’s and Super Junior Kangin’s company SM Entertainment had to apologize fast but they didn’t know that discussions would continue. Thus they made an official apology through the radio broadcast on the 19th.

[News] Girls’ Generation’s explosive CD sales

SM Entertainment has reported that Girls' Generation's "Gee" mini-album has sold approximately 65,000 copies in just 13 days since it's release. In addition, they have also moved approximately 4,000 copies of their first album.

An Entertainment analyst stated:

The girls have picked up a lot of new fans during their 9 month hiatus. Girls' Generation is no longer just an idol band, but a top Korean band with mass appeal. The Girls' Generation brand can no longer be considered just a trend, instead they are permanent and have established a sense of long lasting value for consumers.

[News] K-POP SUper Live in Japan (January 31st)

6 of Korea's top artists/groups will be coming together for the "K-POP SUPER LIVE" concert. Well, maybe that's a bit of an over statement, because SG Wannabe are probably the only artists worth going for.

Shin Hyesung and Junjin of Shinhwa, SG Wannabe, Super Junior-Happy, Tei and Wheesung will be holding a joint concert on January 31st in Tokyo, Japan. This will be the 3rd year running of the K-POP SUPER LIVE concert.

Sports Apparel Brand Reebok has picked SHINee to be the new faces and represent their brand in Korea. Reebok stated that SHINee is starting the retro fashion trend for teens in Korea. So because of this Reebok is planning to re-release their Retro shoes from the 80's and 90's called the "Jam Collection."

[News] SNSD gets first place on Music Bank despite the ban

So it seems the rumors that SNSD / Girls' Generation being banned from KBS is true. SNSD won first place on KBS Music Bank, yet weren't in attendance to receive the first place Mutizen award nor perform. Just last week, SNSD performed their comeback stage on multiple music shows but was absent on Music Bank. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that something's up.

However, Music Bank did allow SHINee to perform the past 2 weeks. They probably did this to disprove the rumor of the SM Entertainment ban. Instead, KBS punishment to SM Entertainment is to ban their hot commodity in SNSD.

[News] Disappointing top of Music Bank for SNSD, "1st is not 1st"

"Even though there was a 1st there was no 1st"

Within 9 days of their comeback, So Nyuh Shi Dae reached the top of Music Bank.

So Nyuh Shi Dae's mini album title song "Gee" took first on Music Bank's K-chart which is aired live on KBS 2TV on the 16th. Their rise to the top of public program charts within 10 days of coming back showed off their immense amount of popularity they are garnering.

But So Nyuh Shi Dae was not present at the concert. For 2 weeks straight, So Nyuh Shi Dae has been unable to attend Music Bank and has even become the center of controversy. Although the broadcasting co. and SM Ent. are not disclosing much information, associates are saying that the reason for the no shows is due to bad feelings between the two.

There has been much disappoinment because So Nyuh Shi Dae - which has been taking the music scene by storm in 2009 - is stuck in the middle of this. Because of this unnecessary conflict, So Nyuh Shi Dae along with their fans have been unable to attend. It is a time where we all wish there is some compromise between the broadcasting co. and SM.

So Nyuh Shi Dae was originally planning on making their Music Bank comeback on the 9th, but fans had become suspicious with the sudden cancelling of that plan. From then on, many people have begun to predict that the reason was due to disagreements between KBS and SM Entertainment.

There had been positive talk by SM associates about So Nyuh Shi Dae performing at Music Bank on the 16th, but once again, the performance has been cancelled.

In response to this KBS people stated that, "So Nyuh Shi Dae is unable to perform due to undisclosed reasons." People are beginning to say, "that it will be hard to see So Nyuh Shi Dae come out in Music Bank for a whole."

[News] SNSD's Music Bank appearance once again cancelled.. "It will be hard (to appear) for a while"

Popular Girl group SNSD's KBS 2TV "Music Bank" appearance has been cancelled.

SNSD was supposed to appear in the live KBS 2TV music program "Music Bank" on the 16th. However, just like what happened on the 9th, SNSD won't be able to appear on "Music Bank"

KBS 2TV "Music Bank"'s staff informed Moneytoday StarNews that "As per KBS's rules, it will be hard to see SNSD on Music Bank for a while."

Rumors rose up that other SM Entertainment artists will have a hard time appearing on "Music Bank" as well due to arguments concerning the last year's December 30th "2008 KBS Gayo Celebration"

After SNSD didn't appear on the 9th, however, both sides (SM Ent. and MuBank) said that there are no hard feelings and that "SNSD delayed their stage on MuBank to prepare so they can have a better performance on the 16th."

In reality, SM artist SHINee appeared on MuBank on the 2nd and the 9th, thus proving the hard feeling between SM and KBS wrong.

But since SNSD's appearance was cancelled for two weeks, many in the music industry are saying that KBS still has hard feelings against SM for not letting some of their artists perform in the "2008 KBS Gayo Celebration" and is therefore not letting SNSD perform on MuBank for a while.

It's interested because many people said he looks like Rain or Se7en (but I don't think so :p he has his own style) also DBSK's Jaejoong and actress Park Shin Hye have their appearance on this MV.

I think it's a cool song. And I like it ^^ But the "Call Me, Call Me" part reminds me to Wonder Girls' Yoobin rap and the other members have "Tell Me, Tell Me" back vocals lol

[News/Rumor] TVXQ secretly filming new MV in Saipan

Is TVXQ secretly filming a new music video in Saipan? Apparently so, according to a Bulgarian / Russian girl who works in a hotel in Saipan. This Bulgarian / Russian girl posted this on her personal blog (translated by Leia Greenleaf) -

Our guests will have a lot of fun during the next 5 days! Tomorrow the Asian Backstreet Boys - DBSK are arriving at the PIC hotel. They are number one in the charts of Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong-Kong and Thailand. 5 teenagers (the oldest is 21 years old) will shoot a new MV for their upcoming album “Picture of you” at our hotel. They'll also have a photo shoot and film a reality show, which will be released on a DVD.

They are arriving with a team of 35 members, but our club mate (no idea what she meant) girls will be models for the MV. Pop-idols like to have white girls in their MV so, most likely, our Russian girls – animators will be the models. I think than there will be enough white beautiful ladies for them, because more than 130 Russian families are currently staying at the hotel. The idols are lucky!
The most fun in their schedule is the reality show shootings: pop stars will participate in different funny games and will prepare a breakfast in the Magellan restaurant! I think our guests will enjoy such an exclusive entertainment – “games with the pop stars” Of course, the security is much tighter now, because it won’t be hard for their fans in Korea and Japan to find out where their idols are. But we were told about the arrival of Dong Bang Shin Ki just yesterday.

PS: This is just rumor for these days.

[News/Misc] DBSK go their separate ways

DBSK go their separate ways before heading back to Japan. TVXQ / DBSK have just wrapped up promotional activities in Korea for their album and now the members will be participating in separate activities. Days ago, Yunho went along with soccer player Cho Jae Jin to watch a match at Anyang. They were cheering on for their mutual friend, Yang Hee Jong.

While the rest of the boys made their way to Beijing to take part in an investment project for cosmetics. They just recently made it back to Korea for a 10 day vacation before they head back to Japan.

TVXQ's 4th Japanese album is to be released in March, and the five of them will start their Japan tour in May. The first of their 4th Asian Tour Concert tickets sold out in under 5 minutes.

[News] Spanish singer plagiarizes from Super Junior

A Spanish singer / artist is receiving a lot of Latino heat after a clever netizen discovered that he plagiarized the song "U" from Super Junior. This news was originally posted on the HATO fan club, which is a fan club for Latin American / Spanish Super Junior fans.

“There is a music festival called Eurovision Song Contest. This is a contest of sorts where all the European (and even some Asian) countries send their best contestants with brand new songs to represent their respective countries.

It’s a great contest, believe me. I've followed this contest for the past 8 years and what I’m about to say is something that I still can't believe.

In Spain, they had an open internet poll to choose their favorite contestant in the Eurovision Song Contest. More than 455 songs were uploaded to a web page and all the people (not just Spanish people) voted for their favorites. I was voting for all the ones I liked when I found out something so disgusting, so humiliating for all of us ELF.

Yeah, that’s right. It’s the instrumental version of U with lyrics from another singer. That’s not fair at all! He broke one of the most important rules: to make a full original (lyrics and music) song.

Eurovision-spain.com, the official Spanish fanbase of the Eurovision Song Contest wrote something about this after I reported the plagiarism, this is their response:

"We are disappointed about this news. Adriel's Solo Un Segundo was published around October 2008. He broke our contest rules by using the instrumental version of "U", a hit song from Korean Boyband Super Junior which was published in 2006. In response to our inquiry, Adriel admitted that he used the instrumental version of "U" because of lack of time and that he will now remake the song."

Last year TVXQ's Xiah Junsu revealed his brother Kim Junho via MBC's "Introducing a star's friend," and as many predicted, Kim Junho will now be pursuing an entertainment career of his own.

"Kim Junho, Xiah Junsu’s twin brother, recently officially began his career in the entertainment industry by shooting a commercial for a soy
milk company, which he signed a contract with.

It was revealed that 3 years ago, Kim Junho started going to acting classes so he could debut as an actor. Also, he was in a musical before so he is also known as a musical actor.

Last year, Kim Junho starred in the MBC variety show, “Introducing a Star’s Friend.” With a height of 188cm (6ft 2 inches), an athletic body from being a pitcher for his college baseball team and an appearance similar to Jo Han Sun, Kim Junho was a hot topic of discussion.

[News] SHINee wants to save the earth

SHINee had a small segment on January 11th's Inkigayo for the "Save Energy, Save Earth" campaign. They sang a small jingle and acted out small scenes to bring awareness on conserving energy.

Key played the role of mother and wore a maid outfit. In the first energy saving scene, Minho was using a lot of water until mommy Key punished him to remind him to Save Energy. The boys were freezing by saving energy by having their heater turned off, Mommy Key came to the rescue by giving them earmuffs.

[News] Kangin starring in a new drama

Kangin of Super Junior is scheduled to star in a new drama titled "하자 전담반 제로 (translated as Ha Ja Squad Zero)." The show will air at 11 am every Saturday on MBC's cable channel "MBC Dramanet". The first episode will air February 14th.

Kangin will play the role of a new employee at a marriage consultant agency. His demeanor is supposed to be like a childlike innocent boy, who loves reading comics / mangas.

Many people are wondering how Kangin can balance out starring in a drama with his currently full schedule. He's currently filming for "We Got Married" and also has his own radio show. He's also supposed to be working on Super Junior's 3rd album.

[News] Girls’ Generation members cook up a Flu

Girls' Generation members Yuri, Taeyeon, Sooyoung and Sunny have come down with the flu. Or rather have been suffering from the flu, prior to their comeback performances. The members have been making visits to the hospital since the 6th of January in order to quickly recover and put on good performances, but because it's taking longer than expected, they have been extremely upset about not being able to perform up to par.

SM Entertainment stated:

Members Yuri, Taeyeon, Sooyoung and Sunny have been suffering from the flu, so they have been making frequent visits to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, they have not been recovering as quickly as they'd like to, and therefore are upset that they haven't been able to perform at their best. They are all trying to recover as quickly as possible and of course we are doing everything that we can for the girls as well.

There's a new guy hitting the KPOP scene named Taegoon and a preview of his upcoming MV titled "Call Me" was recently released. It features TVXQ / DBSK's Jaejoong and actress Park Shin Hye. Supposedly, he's a good childhood friend of TVXQ's Jaejoong. Taegoon is supposed to make his debut performance on January 17th's Music Core.

[News] SNSD returns cuter and brighter

SNSD said:

"We've become stronger during the break!" 9 member female group Girls' Generation / SNSD opened 2009 with a new album. They started to engage in active promotion of the mini album, 'Gee', after taking more than a 8 month break.

The response they got was huge. In just 2 days after the initial release of the "Gee" Mp3, the song topped all kinds of online music charts. Not to mention 'crab leg dance' taking the top rank in search keyword rankings. Also people showed immense interest in the girls various outfits, such as the colored jeans shown in the M/V and performance stages. This kind of response is perhaps a well deserved compensation for their flawless preparation. SNSD said, "We prepared for a long time. As fans showed very high expectation, we were worried, but we are glad that our efforts have paid off well".

The biggest asset acquired during the long break is improved teamwork. They were confident in saying, "our teamwork has improved even more as we shared a common goal. There are members who have practiced together for 10 years since their trainee days. SNSD's biggest weapon is definitly a strong teamwork".

Before their comeback, the album cover was also a hot issue. It showed girls wearing rollerskates, which were popular in 80s. SNSD answered "we are not THAT young" in response to the question "have you ever tried on rollerskates before?".

They added, "rollerskates were discountinued in production so we specially designed them. They are figure skating shoes with wheels attached instead".

The girls have worked hard and deserved all the success they have achieved. They even converted some ANTI's into fans. Let's see if they can keep up their success throughout 2009.

[Streaming Video] Gee & Him Nae @ SBS Inkigayo January 11th

Girls' Generation made their 2nd comeback performance with "Gee" and "Him Nae," via SBS Inkigayo.

SBS' stage was definitely nicer than MBC Music Core's last night, and the performances were even better as well. The girls showed a lot more energy tonight, and provided fans with a nearly flawless performance.

[News] Fly to the Sky takes off again

Brian of old school KPOP group Fly to the Sky recently celebrated his 28th birthday. He celebrated with his fellow member Hwanhee and fans at the Grand Hilton Hotel in Seoul. They sang songs, invited fans up stage, had interviews, and had a jolly good time. During one of the interviews, they stated that they have been working on their new album for some time now and plan to release it some time in late January.

Fly to the Sky released their last album in 2007. Before that, they had some turmoil and tribulations.

In 2005, they left SM Entertainment because Fly to the Sky stated that SM Entertainment only concentrated on the commercial success and not the actual music they produce. Brian was also jealous of fellow member Hwanhee. Brian felt that everyone would praise Hwanhee, but not him so he got butt hurt over it. He confronted Hwanhee one day and said that he was gonna go solo. They then got into a fist fight and had to be broken up. After the fight, they said sorry to each other.

[News/misc] Yunho likes basketball

TVXQ / DBSK leader Yunho was spotted at a Korean basketball game on January 9th. Yunho attended the game to watch his friend play, who is a Korean national basketball player. The one sitting near him with sunglasses is his other friend and he's a Korean national soccer player. Apparently, he has a lot of friends who are athletes and he hang's out with them whenever he has the opportunity to do so. I wonder if Yunho hangs out with Park Ji Sung? Probably not, because Sung is in Europe most of the time playing for Manchester United.

It's cool that Yunho has a chance to hang out with his friends, considering TVXQ's hectic schedule. They seem to be traveling between Japan and Korea with multiple activities every day.

[News/Streaming Video] SNSD's Comeback Stage!

Girls' Generation returned to the K-Pop scene after an 8-9 month hiatus with their new mini-album "Gee," and performed their first live performances via MBC Music Core on January 10th, 2009 (Korea).

It's great to see the girls finally back on stage, definitely a breath of fresh air, as there's nothing else going on at the moment. With that said, their vocals were spot on, a great comeback.
